Overview

A network-attached Zigbee and Thread coordinator for serious Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT and ZHA deployments. Free the radio from the server: place the coordinator anywhere a LAN cable reaches, away from USB noise and PC interference, for a dramatically cleaner and more stable mesh.

Built on the Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 radio with an ESP32 core for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Runs the unified SLZB-OS firmware — a clean local web UI, MQTT, OTA updates, standalone Zigbee Hub Mode and Berry scripting. Fully local, no cloud account required.

Why Ethernet and PoE

Connecting over 100Mbps Ethernet removes the USB extension cables, hubs and electrical noise that cripple a typical USB-stick coordinator. Mount it high, central, and far from your rack. With Power over Ethernet, a single cable delivers both data and power, so no separate plug is required at the install point.

Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT and ZHA Compatibility

The SLZB-06MU is a first-class citizen in Zigbee2MQTT and ZHA. Add it as a network (TCP) adapter in either stack — no USB pass-through to a virtual machine, no flaky serial bridge. It also operates as an OpenThread Border Router for Matter-over-Thread devices.

USB Passthrough Mode exposes a separate plugged-in USB radio — for example a Z-Wave stick — to your controller over the LAN, so a single mounting point can serve more than one protocol.

FAQ

Do I still need a USB stick?

No. The SLZB-06MU is a complete coordinator — it connects to Home Assistant over your LAN as a network adapter. Nothing plugs into the server.

Can it run Zigbee and Thread at the same time?

The single EFR32MG21 radio runs one protocol at a time. For simultaneous Zigbee and Thread on independent radios, see the SLZB-MR3U multi-radio coordinator.

Does it need its own power supply?

With a PoE switch or injector, the Ethernet cable supplies both data and power. Otherwise power it over USB-C.
